First of all, it's the best way to train your left hand coordination in Counter-Strike. You'll feel every part of the map, and you'll be much more comfortable moving around. You'll stop getting distracted by small bumps, slopes and crates, and you'll stop missing keyboard buttons. You'll learn how to use Shift correctly, when to release W and how to instantly go around any corner you want. It's important to choose a server to surf on. I chose one for myself here.

Surfing allows you to traverse certain areas of the map much faster than with simple walking. You'll be harder to hit, and you can get into any position much sooner than your opponents expect.
